Tree Crops Production
The oil palm is one of the most important economic trees in Enugu state. The value chain include palm oil, palm kernel oil (pko), kernel cake, palm wine and other derivatives and by products from its vegetative parts. At present, Enugu state government has 1,427 hectares of established oil palm plantations. There are estimated 22,800 hectares of oil palm plantations under private entrepreneurs and subsistent farmers in the state. There are Public-Private Partnership (PPP) investment opportunities for the establishment of oil palm plantation, processing plants as well as incentives to develop all value-added oil palm products for export.
Cashew plants grow widely and well in most parts of Enugu state and produce one of the best varieties in the world. Cashew apart from its edible nuts, its shells contain Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) which is a source of natural phenols used in the plastic industry. Enugu state has a comparative advantage over other states in this regard, hence potentials for collaborative investments.
